Directed by Shinji Mikami, biohazard/resident evil creator, the game does rather come over like a japanese take on halo, whilst also bringing to mind the aesthetic of Mikami's previous gamecube title PN03.

Lovely orbital beam weapon shot in there. it's not clear yet if the enemy is alien or another nation on earth. The obvious Japanese Halo comments may well be totally unfounded as far as the gameplay goes.

Video Games | Vanquish | Exclusive Debut Trailer

XBox 360 | Playstation 3 | Nintendo Wii

Rebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17070512512857569741noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4449449406755168225.post-74626997778014828402010-01-28T20:43:00.000-08:002010-01-28T23:01:59.143-08:00Mass Effect 2 'n' PalsScifi gaming in 2010 kicks off properly this week after the abortive false start of rocketpack uncharted Vs art deco geth disapointment-em-up 'Dark void'. I would hope almost everyone reading this will be aware of 'Mass Effect 2', bioware's cinematic scifi space opera RPG. I will be writing extensively about this in the coming days and weeks. The opening sequence is fantastic, featuring one of the best 'on board a dying starship' sequence in any visual mediums to date. The next bits less so, but it's way too early for a full opinion.

Mass Effect 2 isn't alone this week, PC owners have the FPS 'Exodus from Earth'. for some strange reason i take a sort of masochistic interest in the generic scifi FPS, Pariah, Chrome, Kreed, Mace griffen, Chaser... it's like a wierd perversion, i always hope there will be some kind of redeeming scifi idea. Exodus has seen release already in many territories, this is the official UK release.

PS3 owners, denied the mass effect universe have M.A.G. the MMO FPS against despiriting metal gear style PMC warfare consumes the world backdrop. It remains to be seen if the story will evolve with or be influenced by the players actions or is just an excuse for vaguely futuristic projectile weapons.

Wii owners, aren't left totally in the cold, especially those with a passion for obscure (in the west at least) 1970's anime. they have 'Tatsunoku vs Capcom'. As with the MvC games of yore, Capcom characters square off for unending best of three brawls with characters owned by Tatsunoko, the best known of which in the west are easliy those from Gatchamn (a.ka. G-force a.k.a Battle of the Planets). Despite the crossover. For many in the west it's a streetfighter game for the Wii

Finally, there are the point and click mystery horror stylings of 'Dark Fall 3' for the PC This is an independent Puzzle game. I enjoy the indie adventure scene, but i've yet to see any of the games in this series. from what i can tell it's a first person paranormal myst style puzzler, telling it's stories through found writings and puzzle clues.

Those with children, or deranged minigame compilation fans may also be interested in 'Arthur And The Revenge Of Maltazard', a collection of minigames based on the childrens film of the same name. it looks to combine he scale based antics of zelda and the minish cap and avatar style naturism finished with a sort of troll doll aesthetic. This appears to be the only Portable (DS) release this week. (Iphone excluded, i shall endeavour to include this platform soon).

January 29th 2010

Mass Effect 2 - Bioware/EA - 360/PC
Exodus from Earth - Parallax Art Studio / 1C - PC
Tatsunoko Vs Capcom Ultimate All Stars - Capcom - Wii
MAG: Massive Action Game - Zipper interactive/SCEA - PS3
Dark fall 3 - XXV productions/adventure Company - PC
Arthur And The Revenge Of Maltazard - Ubisoft - Wii, DS, PS3, PCRebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17070512512857569741noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4449449406755168225.post-33120207097252017132010-01-09T01:43:00.000-08:002010-01-28T20:43:23.776-08:00January cryobed mishapIt appears I pressed the wrong button on the cryochamber, and 1.5 years have elapsed instead of days. Cryochambers probably should come with more buttons than just day, year, + and - (and of course the irritatingly recessed emergency defrost button).

Still fortutiously, i awaken from my dreamless slumber to see it's pretty much the beginning of 2010, and this scifi games homeopape is afforded a fairly neat and tidy restarting point.

One of the core regular things planned here, is a weekly roundup of all scifi games released (and grudgingly, fantasy, with a level of attention inversely propertional to the genericness of the fantasy world depicted).

Then throughout the week, i will attempt to look a little more closely at the games. At the very least I'll be playing the major releases, and posting wierd sort psuedo reviews, psuedo-analysis, and of course psuedo-trying to be funny stuff. Basically, in an attempt to both structure and legitimise my otherwise harrowingly obsessive gaming and scifi interests, there will be ... whatever this is.

I'm hoping it's going to evolve into the enjoyable blog I tried and failed to find, about science fiction, gaming, and most importantly science fiction gaming. Oh and I'm going to take the scifi stuff seriously... but more about those pretentions another time.

So lets anthropomorphise a month, and ascribe it the role of inventory manager and see what Jan 2010 has in store for us...

-=8th=-
Bayonetta
Darksiders

-=15th=-

Astroboy
Time Machine: trapped in time
Army of two: 40th day (not sure this is really scifi, but it's probably set in some "3 hours into the future" type of near future world, and we've got to tackle that issue at some point)

-=22nd=-

Dark Void
Resident evil zero wii
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 4

-=29th=-

Mass Effect 2
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
Arthur and The Revenge Of Maltazard
M.A.G
Exodus from Earth

The month is bookended by it's two biggest games, Bayonetta and Mass Effect 2, with Darksiders and Dark Void being the next most interesting looking titles.

Bayonetta and Darksiders are of course both out now, so i'm off to write the next post, the first of the afformentioned weekly round ups.Rebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17070512512857569741noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4449449406755168225.post-44458811867502287942008-08-19T05:08:00.000-07:002008-08-19T05:18:06.160-07:00The Problem with Mass Effect

When i first made this, it was quite timely, and the idea was to launch this blog with a bunch of little youtube vids. My crippling laziness foiled that plan.

I couldn't find any cheap 70's SF footage of people going into a mine/bunker/freighter/green space caravan thing with exactly the same floorplan each time over and over again ad infinitum, otherwise that would be in there too.

Scattering some crates about in different places isn't enough to fool me Bioware!Rebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17070512512857569741noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4449449406755168225.post-52309256513195901592008-08-18T07:06:00.001-07:002008-08-19T05:30:35.736-07:00Starboard Fusion Chamber Online
Hello, welcome to Breach in Starboard fusion chamber, a science fiction gaming blog. There must be a gabazillion and one gaming blogs and news sites on the web these days, but the idea behind this one is the glorious symbiosis of science fiction and gaming, a scifi gaming blog then, driven by the apparent lack of such a beast already existing on the net. There may well be other blogs focusing on the same topic, and I’d love to hear about them if you know of such a thing, but I’ll be attempting to fill the apparent gap and will hopefully be creating the sort of blog I was looking for to start with.

Traditionally the computer games and science fiction markets have always overlapped somewhat. Things are changing, now games are moving ever further into the mainstream, there’s an IKEA expansion pack for the growingly de-spiriting Sims 2, there are Wii games about boiling eggs and we now live in an insane future-gone-mad world where a set of digital bathroom scales leads the gaming vanguard in the 21st century. Brunner and Gibson never warned us about this! In short, the world of the video game is no longer the oasis of Sci-Fi themes it once was. That is not to say there are less Sci-Fi games being made, it’s simply that there are more and more games about other things to wade through. In other mediums, film being the obvious example, this gives rise to the specialist Sci-Fi magazines such as SFX or Starburst. The idea here at starboard fusion is the same. Imagine an issue of SFX, but instead of games being allocated a pitiful half-a-page every issue; Sci-Fi games become the magazines primary focus.

So, what superheated gaming gases will the chamber be venting into your aghast face over the coming weeks? Well I have already had literally, some ideas. Perhaps most naturally, there is to be as exhaustive coverage of new science fiction games as I can manage. I suspect this will take the traditional format of news/rumours and slightly more informed previews.

There are also plans for slightly more formalised hands on reviews. I’ll be looking across all platforms, a policy hampered only slightly by my current lack of PS3 (Contributions are welcome, reviews or a free ps3 ;) ). A few words about the plans for these reviews, they aren’t going to be exactly like other reviews, with a far stronger focus on the science fiction aspects themselves. What all that means, I will leave to be elaborated upon later (when i’ve made it up)

Retrospectively, gaming already boasts an impressive canon of original science fiction material. In addition to that, games have always been tied to the larger world of Sci-Fi via the dark phenomenon known as the licensed tie in. And I doubt we’ll be able to totally avoid that pain. Beyond that, there are no hard and fast rules, but there are plans, plans within plans...

Thanks for sticking with this little introduction, dull as it is. The plan is to post regularly, and to gradually build up the site as I go. It’s a bit early to say much more, but hopefully things should start to become self-explanatory.

Have cataclysmic reactor failure free day

Reb.
Rebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17070512512857569741noreply@blogger.com1
